WALKING IN THE LAKE DISTRICT

If you are interested in taking a walking holiday, the world is your oyster. Walking is one holiday pursuit where you have no many options available to you. Walking holidays are not only invigorating and good for your well being, it's a great way to see things that you would never see by hurtling around in planes, trains and automobiles. Once you've decided on the location for your walking holiday, it's great to hop around for the accommodation to suit your budget. One thing is for sure though, if you shop around on the Internet and cut out the middle-man, you will enjoy better prices for your walking holiday.

The Golden Jubilee Bank Holiday is almost upon us and hundreds of us will be going away for the long weekend. Tourist hotspots across North Wales are preparing for the bank holiday.

Hundreds of holidaymakers have packed up their cars and are heading towards North Wales at the weekend, to take advantage of the good weather.

Motoring organisation AA, have warned people to expect long delays. Hopefully as many roadwork's as possible will be suspended, to try and help the flow of traffic. However if the weather is nice then there will most certainly be a surge of people heading to the north Wales coast - pick any motorway and it will be busy.

The Wales Tourist Board have said that judging by bookings the region will be busy. The long break could prove to be a lifeline to the area, after the foot-and-mouth outbreak last year. Last year hotels were mainly receiving cancellations, as people couldn't go on their walking holidays. However this year it is a different story, as the people who couldn't come last year are coming this year.

A spokeswoman from the Wales Tourist Board has said "The tourist information centres in Wrexham and Ruthin have said they are busy, and all caravan and camping sites in Rhyl are fully booked."

Robert Jaques, owner of The Bryn Derwen Hotel in Llangollen has said that all of his 16 rooms are fully booked for the entire bank holiday weekend, despite fears that the World Cup would encourage people to stay at home. "The World Cup has not affected us at the moment but it will have a bearing in June."

For those of us who are heading away the AA's Claire Price says it is important for people to plan their route. "You should try and find out before hand if localised roads are shut because of street parties." Claire also added "If you do get stuck in traffic, keep calm, keep your cool and don't get involved in any road rage incidents."
