ANXIETY AND PANIC ATTACKS

If you have ever suffered from a panic attack or experience anxiety with particular situations you mustn't feel as though you're the only one. Literally millions of people feel this way at certain times of their life and in certain situations. It is normal human reaction to react with a 'fight or flight' response to fear and anxiety.

The thing about anxiety and panic attacks is that if they become a feature of your life seek advice from your medical practitioner because you may require a form of counselling that bring about positive changes to your disposition to the situations that cause anxiety.

Anxiety disorders are disorders that can quickly take control of a persons life. Anxiety is something we as human beings all face, from that first day of school to that first job interview. We all have to deal with anxiety, but when does it become a disorder? . Well, it becomes a serious problem when everyday activities and situations, carries with it huge amounts of stress fear and a host of other symptoms.

There are five different types of anxiety disorders: Panic Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Social Phobia (or Social Anxiety Disorder) and Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD).

These are all terrible and frightening disorders but I would like to focus particularly on Panic disorders. Panic disorder can be a social and mentally crippling disorder if left without some kind of therapy. Panic disorders are characterized firstly with a "Panic Attack" which describes the frightful nature of the extreme unexpected and feelings of anxiety experienced. Sufferers often feel a barrage of emotions and physical symptoms.

These include, heart palpitations, sweatiness, faint or weak feelings, dizziness, tingling or numbness in the body. You may even feel flushed, chilled or nausea, chest pains or a feeling of impending doom. These attacks usually last for about 10 minutes. These attacks can happen anytime day or night and the impressions have a lasting affect.

For instance, whenever someone suffering from panic disorder has an attack, wherever they have an attack they usually become very fearful of that location. Thinking that whenever they go back to that place an attack waits for them. When these attacks are left unchecked, it quickly progresses to agoraphobia. Agoraphobia is a serious fear open spaces, this forces it's sufferers to remain indoors. It's disturbing and frightening, that coupled with panic disorder can send someone's life to a grinding halt.

How to treat this? Well early detection is one way to stop agoraphobia, but panic disorder is treated with different medications and psychotherapy, that can help change the thinking patterns that will lead to increased anxiety and ultimately panic attacks.

Panic disorder has been seen to pass on from generation to generation, so if and when you get a handle on this very serious illness then it will only be that much easier for you to possibly deal with the next generation.
