BAD BREATH
The medical term for bad breath is Halitosis, but other common expressions are foul breath and breath odour. They are used to describe unpleasant smells when someone breaths out. The problem with bad breath is that many sufferers are unaware of the condition and the effect it has on others around them and it is something that people dislike telling the sufferer about. |

On the other hand, the sufferer of bad breath who is painfully aware of the condition will often try to mask the smell by continually resorting to chewing gum of eating mint sweets. It is thought that bad breath accounts for up to one in three visits to the dentist and the most common reasons are tooth decay or periodontal disease. It is said that almost nine in ten sufferers, the odour comes from the mouth itself and the extent of the smell can vary according to the time of day.It is not uncommon for all people to suffer some sort of bad breath as a result a general dryness of the mouth which can be due to a lack of fluid intake or in some cases by stress . Clearly, by eating particular foodstuffs like garlic, meat, cheese, onions or even consuming alcohol or smoking cigarettes people will suffer from mouth odour. Understandably, while the mouth is dry during the night it is common to have bad breath symptoms when you first arise from bed, but this condition is temporary and will disappear by refreshing the mouth and cleaning the teeth. |

Some people find
that small deposits of feed can linger between their teth and this will cause bad breath as the food decomposes. This can
normally be eliminated very easily by flossing the teeth and sometimes resorting to using a mouthwash.
Bad breath can be quite persistent and this is a more serious condition which is said to effect about one in
four people to
a greater or lesser extent.
Sufferers and their partners will know that persistent bad breath will have quite a negative effect on a person's self esteem and it can cause high levels of stress as the person can never relax in other people's company. Unless the chronic bad breath sufferer has bad teeth that is causing the smells, the condition is most likely to be caused by particular types of oral bacteria. It is known that most bad breath conditions are due to a build up of proteins that are in the mouth and then processed by oral bacteria. Incredibly, there are more than 600 different types of bacteria found in the mouth and quite a few of these are capable of yielding nasty smells when produced under laboratory conditions. It is understood that the most common part of the mouth to cause is the Halitosis is the tongue because of the build-up of naturally-occurring bacteria where they are mainly left undisturbed by eating and teeth cleaning. As a general rule, the tongue is normally overlooked when it comes to oral hygiene and cleaning disciplines, which causes large amounts of bacteria to flourish. In addition, other areas of the mouth can contribute to bad breath, but are not as common as the tongue. These include little niches where food deposits can get trapped, poorly maintained dental work and abscesses |
